You will gain understanding of good work practices in the provision of care for older people and an understanding of the concept of the aging process. You will explore how to satisfy the needs of older people in various care settings and how to enhance their quality of life. Also, you will explore the social attitudes to ageing people, the impact of the ageing process on older people and the current provision of care settings and support services for older people.  

You will learn about the role of the health care assistant when working with an older person, how to identify emotional, physical and the social needs of the older person and how to care for older people with specific needs. Also, you will learn how to effectively communicate with older people and about personal effectiveness in the workplace.  

Career Opportunities 

After completing the course in the care of older people, you will be qualified to work as a healthcare assistant, a care worker and a carer in either home care agencies or HSE registered healthcare settings.
