In 1650, Jean-Baptiste Lully introduced the Minuet to Paris which was a dance that would dominate ballroom until the end of the 18th Century. In the early 1800s, the Waltz came about in England. By 1840, the Mazurka, Schottische and Polka emerged also. In the early 20th Century, ballroom dancing experienced huge popularity in the US with the extremely successful dancing of Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. Even though many iof their numbers were meticulously choreographed, oft-rehearsed and stages, they influenced greatly ballroom dancing’s acceptance and acclaim.

There are many benefits of ballroom dancing. From a health perspective, it improves fitness and health by exercising without necessarily working out. In addition, it burns calories with low-impact aerobics movements. From the physical perspective, it improves balance, mobility, flexibility and coordination and reduces stress. It also increases strength and stamina and muscle toning. From the mental perspective, it enhances alertness, memory, concentration, focus and exercises your brain. It also has great benefits socially. In other words, it helps people to feel more confidence, improve their attitude and increase their positivity and allows them to build social connections.
