Facts about Cornwall

·         The Cornish Pasty was invented for Cornish miners who needed something hearty and substantial and because mining involved the use of poisonous chemicals that could get on to the miner’s hands. the pasty was created with a large crust so that the miners could have something to hold on to but then throw the potentially contaminated crust away when they had finished their dinner.

·         A team of bakers from Bodmin, Cornwall, hold the record for baking the biggest Cornish pasty.  It weighed 1900 pounds and had a whopping 1,750,000 calories.

·         Cornwall has the longest coastline in the UK with Ordnance Survey mappers measuring it to be a whopping 433 miles, and that’s not even including the Isles of Scilly.

·         In the 1900s, half of the world’s tin came from Cornwall.

·         Cornwall is famous for its cream teas, which they serve commonly with a Cornish split, or a slightly sweet white bread roll, rather than a scone.
