· North Yorkshire is home to one of Britain’s oldest ceremonies, every single night for well over one thousand years, a horn has been sounded four times in Ripon’s Market Place at 9 pm. The setting of the watch dates back to AD886, making it one of the oldest still performed ceremonies in England.
· The 17th century Tan Hill Inn is the highest inn in the British Isles at 1,732 feet (528m) above sea level, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
