About Badminton 

Badminton is a court game played with lightweight rackets and a shuttlecock. History, the shuttlecock was a small cork hemisphere with 16 goose feathers attached and weighing around 0.17 ounces (5 grams). These kinds of shuttles may still be used in modern play; however, most shuttles are made from synthetic materials. Synthetic shuttles are also allowed by the Badminton World Federation. The game is named for Badminton, the country estate of the dukes of Beaufort in Gloucestershire, England where it was first played around 1873.  

The roots of the sport can be traced to ancient Greece, China and India and it is closely related to the old children’s game battledore and shuttlecock. The game is derived directly from poona, which was played by British army officers stationed in India in the 1860s. The first unofficial all-England badminton championships for men were held in 1899and the first badminton tournament for women was arranged the following year.

What Will I Learn? 

Badminton classes will vary depending on the level and age group. However, there are some universal techniques you can expect to learn in just about any badminton course. Therefore, you can expect to learn how to master the basics. In other words, you will learn how to play the game, how to grip the racket and how to properly hit the shuttlecock. In addition, you will explore how to move on the court, how to defend and how to score.

Without learning and understanding the basics of badminton, you cannot develop the different skills required in playing competitive badminton. Some classes may cover more than you read here.
